April 24, 2023IGP Melocotón de Cieza presents its 2023 campaign
July 10, 2023The PGI Cieza Peach is now official!
Since last Friday 5th May the Protected Geographical Indication Cieza Peach has been official. Its approval has been published in the Official Journal of the European Union which means that our peach is now on the register of Protected Geographical Indications of the European Union.
Antonio Luengo, Regional Minister of Agriculture of the Region of Murcia stated during his visit to Cieza that “the European Union has already registered the PGI ‘Melocotón de Cieza’ in the Register of Protected Designations of Origin and Protected Geographical Indications, which means that the products harvested during the 2023 season can now be labelled and exported with this seal of differentiated quality”.
During the previous season, farmers were only able to label Baby Gold 6 and Romea peaches with the PGI quality seal for the national market, but after this approval they will also be able to do so for the international market during the 2023 season. The season will start in a couple of months and it is estimated that production will be around 12 million kilos from fields in Cieza, Abarán, Calasparra and Jumilla.
